IF YOU LOSE YOUR LIFE, YOU SHALL FIND IT.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. Mark 8:35

I have been thinking about this scripture for some time now, pondering on the meaning of it. This morning I met a lady in church who has been in prison for the past four years for dealing drugs. She said she has turned her life over to the Lord and wants to live for him and turn away from her old Sife.   She wants her two young girls to grow up knowing the Lord. She is living with a man who is an alcoholic with whom she had a fight last night and asked him to leave.

As I was talking with her, this scripture came to my mind again. If she hangs on to her life as it once was, she will ultimately lose her life and possibly the lives of her children. In order to gain life in the end, she will have to give up her old life for following after Jesus. But, oh what a reward!

Many folks are bound by their lifestyle, thinking there is no way out. Prostitutes, for example. Some of them may like their occupation, but many of them do it out of desperation, thinking they have no other choice to survive. They do not realize that if they will lose their old life and turn it over to Jesus, they will find new life in Him.

On the surface, it may be a scary thing to give up the security of selling your body for money, or dealing drugs for money. How will you live? Where will you live? How will you pay your bills? Who will be your friends?

I say, Give it all up! Take a chance on Jesus, give it all to Him and see what He will do for you. If you seek to save your current life, you will lose it all. But if you lose your life for His sake and the gospel's, you will save your life both now and for eternity. That is a promise!
